If a star is located next on the message symbol this indicates that the message is considered to be unread. By clicking on the symbol itself you can change the status of the message, so that it disappears from the list.

By clicking on the news-category of a news post you can see all news of this category. By clicking on the title of the news you directly jump to this post.
