University of Dortmund
Department of political sciences within the faculty of human sciences and theology
In the west of Dortmund, just a few minutes away from the heart of the Westphalian metropolis, the campus of the University of Dortmund is situated. Here nearly 24,000 students are preparing themselves for their jobs. 3000 scientists as well as technical and other employees are working here.
The University of Dortmund combines academic tradition with modern programmes to guarantee a special quality of teaching and research. Established in the sixties as an answer to the structural crises of the former coal and steel district it has enriched the educational scenery with new and partly unique study offers and thus acquired the reputation of an innovative reform university.
The department of political sciences is part of the faculty of human sciences and theology within the University of Dortmund. The main focus of research for political sciences is in analysing the different constitutional orders of a state and the process of formulating political demands and objectives as well as the different political fields of internal- and foreign policy. The emphases of political sciences in Dortmund are on the fields of political theory, political parties, media and politics, political education and intercultural communication.
With its research potential the department of political science does not only make an important contribution to the Universities own scientific improvement, but with several contacts, partnerships and cooperations with universities and scientists in the whole world the department of political sciences is anchored firmly in the international science community.
Prof. Dr. Thomas Meyer, chair of the political science department at the University of Dortmund, sets a high value on intercultural academic exchange in the fields of political sciences.
