Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Bordeaux

Sciences Po Bordeaux is an interdisciplinary teaching and research institution founded in 1948. It has established a reputation of excellence in the field of political science and hosts two CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) research centres, the Centre d'Etude d'Afrique Noire (Unité mixte de recherche 5115) and the SPIRIT - Sciences Politique, Relations Internationales, Territoire (Unité mixte de recherche 5116). Both centres are also formally associated with the Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques (Paris). Within IEP and through its centres, extensive scholarly research and expertise are conducted on regional institutions and regionalisation, both within the EU, Central Europe as well as Africa, and from a comparative perspective. Areas of expertise also include the regionalisation of conflicts, environmental issues, gender studies and interactions between globalisation, regionalisation and multilateral negotiations.

Sciences Po Bordeaux has currently some 700 undergraduates, 200 postgraduate students and a full time teaching and research staff of 78. Student exchanges operate with 20 European countries (76 departments in universities) and a dozen of non-European countries. IEP also participates to integrated curriculum programs with the universities of Turin, Grenada, Cardiff and Stuttgart; it has also set up jointly with other European institutions the International School of Political Science of the University of Silesia (Katowice).
